About Joseph L Humpherys, D.O.
Meet Dr. Joseph Humpherys
Experienced orthopedic surgeon Joseph Humpherys, DO, of Rapid City Orthopedics in Rapid City, South Dakota, specializes in sports medicine and joint preservation.
Dr. Humpherys has considerable expertise in shoulder, hip, and knee arthroscopy. This minimally invasive surgical technique minimizes tissue damage and pain after surgery. He uses these techniques to perform advanced procedures like knee ligament repair and reconstruction, hip preservation, and joint cartilage restoration.
Dr. Humpherys attended Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, for his undergraduate studies. He received his medical degree from Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) in Glendale, Arizona.
Dr. Humpherys moved to Modesto, California, to complete his orthopedic residency at Valley Orthopaedic Bone and Joint. He cared for collegiate and high school athletes while in Modesto. He later completed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Missouri (Mizzou or MU) in Columbia, Missouri.
Dr. Humpherys served as a team doctor for the football, soccer, softball, volleyball, and gymnastics teams at the University of Missouri, a Southeastern Conference (SEC Division I) school. He is currently the team surgeon at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and several high schools in the Rapid City area.
Dr. Humpherys treats every patient like a member of his own family. He takes the time to explain any issues, answer questions, and ensure that patients feel confident in the plan of action he prescribes.
When he’s not helping his patients, Dr. Humpherys enjoys woodworking, hiking, boating, and spending time with his five children. He is proud to offer his services to the Rapid City community.
